Kovalam Skate Club - Thiruvananthapuram

Provide free skateboarding lessons and educational program of SISP for youth who dropped out of schools.

Sebastian Indian Social Projects (S.I.S.P.) works with the poorest in the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, by offering free education, food support, old age care, disabled care, micro credit unions, work in handicraft units, etc.

Kovalam Surf Club and Kovalam Skate Club (which includes a skatepark at the school courtyard and a mini skate ramp at the second floor!) are part S.I.S.P. to act as an extra motivation to keep the children of S.I.S.P. going to school on a regular basis; all boys and girls can join the sports activities. The main rule to participate in the classes is: “No School - No Surfing / Skating!”

The profit made with the commercial side of the Kovalam Surf Club (running a surf&handicraft shop with board rental and offering of surflessons) sustains the free surf school for the kids of S.I.S.P. and pays the wage for the staff; all local youngsters who have been with S.I.S.P. since the early days and wanted to turn their passion into a career.  By the end of the season what is left of the profit will be donated to S.I.S.P. to help in its struggle for a fairer world.
